New Book Update!

As I’ve blogged about a couple times recently, I’ve started writing a new novel. It’s been 11 years since I wrote a book (wow time flies). And back then my books didn’t do too well, so I’m hoping this is the one that will do well! At the very least, I feel God encouraging me onward with it. So I know there will be some good to come of it, even if it never makes it to publishing or makes any waves in the market. I’m excited just to be on the journey of writing again, I really enjoy it.

11 years ago I was just a teenager who had dropped out of college for a couple years to write books. I didn’t have kids and I was still a couple years out from meeting my future wife. Girls weren’t apart of the picture. Neither was school. So, I being a natural night owl, scheduled my writing times throughout the entire night. During which I would drink massive amounts of coffee, spend wonderful times with God (just ecstasy, romantic, wonderful times with him. Some of the best moments of my time on earth this side of heaven, really!). I would typically write 4000 – 6000 words per night. One night I worked 18 hours straight and did 8000 words (I was exhausted afterward!).

Now, things are different. I had originally budgeted 3000 – 4000 words per week. And I’m currently 1 month in and I’m at 1500 words total. Wow. #fail Something there about being a husband, daddy, working full time, learning Greek and barely having free time to work on my book and still get decent amounts of sleep (even pulling some late nighters) and I’m barely off the launching pad. I had forecasted to get my manuscript finished by July. Then it became August. Now I’m hoping it’s just before winter starts.

Difficulties of project management aside, I love it. I just love writing. It’s such a passion of mine and I love to image God as a writer. I’m really excited about where the story line is going. It’s exciting, I think it grabs the reader and doesn’t let go until the very end. It’s intense. It’s just a fun story to write out 🙂

I’m writing a lot of the story late night after the kids and my lovely wife go to bed. I’m doing some high level story line work during my lunch breaks at, you guessed it, Starbucks. So I’m really throwing myself into it right now and I’m really hoping the product is good. I think it will be 😉

Any other writers out there working on current projects? How are things going with you?

Hope everyone has a WONDERFUL weekend! Remember you are the apple of our Beloved’s eye, you are the treasure of Jesus’ heart 🙂

Blessings!

Joel

      1. Nice! 😉 I read that on one of your posts the other day! I haven’t met too many other Joels out there. Us Joels have to stick together! Haha!

So it’s an end times thriller. I have a pretty unique view on the end times, here’s some of my theology on it https://inthedesertwithjesus.wordpress.com/2016/08/09/apokalypsys/

I’m not sure if you’re into eschatology or not. What’s funny is my wife is definitely not and neither is my dad (they’re both amazing Christians and are far wiser than I am in many many things!), but my mom is. We’re super close to my parents and I was talking my mom one day on the drive to the office telling her about some of my thoughts on the end times and she said, you should write a book about all this! I thought, yeah well see. And I stuck it in the back of my mind until last December when a couple of my regulars on my blog, Lene and Johanna and Lee ( all who have awesome blogs by the way so check them out!!) Just really encouraged me to write a book after I wrote a spooky short story for Halloween on the antichrist here: https://inthedesertwithjesus.wordpress.com/2016/11/02/i-know-who-the-antichrist-is-and-i-want-to-share-my-story/

So here I am, working on a book, it has part of the short story from that post integrated into it. It’s fun! 🙂

Hope you’re having a wonderful weekend Christina! Tonight is the daddy daughter dance for me and my oldest. I’m suuuuper excited for it. I got her a corsage and me a matching boutineer, then I’m taking her to dinner at our fave little Italian restaurant, then it’s off to dance the night away!! 🙂

      2. Wow that sounds like an awesome night planned for the two of you! Enjoy! I’m very interested in what you have to say about the end times, so I will be sure to find some time this weekend and read your posts. Thanks for sharing, Joel! Enjoy the dance! 🙂

    1. Thank you so much for the encouragement! And amen, you can’t go wrong following God’s desires placed in your heart. Ecclesiastes 3:11, he has set eternity in the hearts of men. Bless you!!
